Colorado has come a long way

In 1992, Colorado was dubbed “The Hate State” when voters — in a move that shocked many at the time — passed Amendment 2, which excluded gay Coloradans from protection from discrimination. Since that time, however, Colorado has come a long way, and now finds itself on the forefront of the legal and political battles that are reflecting the quickly-evolving national attitudes around civil equality in the 21st century.

On Monday, Denver County Clerk and Recorder Debra Johnson — along with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock — released a video in support of marriage equality for all Denver residents. Both the Mayor and the Clerk have been long-time vocal advocates, and have been in the spotlight in recent weeks as Colorado’s gay marriage debate moves through the courts.

The video, produced by the team at OnSight, was released along with a statement from the Clerk Johnson’s office, which reads in part:

Clerk and Recorder Debra Johnson recognizes the State’s obligation to uphold current law, but also believes in its obligation to enshrine fairness and equity for every Colorado couple.

Colorful Colorado

Congratulations to all who participated in the recently-wrapped Ride The Rockies! This seven-day, 471-mile cycling tour took riders to through blizzards, rainstorms, but most of all, a stunning cross-section of colorful Colorado.

For the second year running (or, riding) OnSight Public Affairs was on hand to handle social media, take photos and work with participating bloggers.

Here are a few highlights from the week:

Rise and Shine

The Hickenlooper for Colorado 2014 campaign is up and running! We worked with our friends at Putnam Partners to create a fun new video showing off John Hickenlooper and Joe Garcia’s campaign workout routine as they get ready for 2014.  It was first screened to cheers and laughter at the Democratic Party Assembly on Saturday. From cycling around the state, to meeting thousands of Coloradans, and not to mention answering countless phone calls, all of Team Hickenlooper is busy getting ready for the campaign!

Lynn Bartels mentioned the video in a post on The Spot, and with hundreds of views on YouTube and dozens of shares on Facebook, the video is already launching the campaign into the spotlight with its characteristic positivity, energy, and self-deprecating charm.

Ride All The Rockies!

Ride All The Rockies!

It was a quiet week at OnSight headquarters in Denver earlier this month. While the tumbleweeds were making their home in our offices, most of our staff was out exploring the state alongside Ride The Rockies.

The weather was spectacular and the tour was admirably well organized. For participants, volunteers, and staff (and OnSight employees numbered themselves among all three), it was an amazing and unforgettable week.

Highlights from our time with Ride The Rockies can be found on the RTR Twitter feed and Facebook page (we took the reigns of the RTR social media feeds for the week), YouTube account (we produced daily videos), and web site (collecting and posting content from the “Peak Pedaler” bloggers were our responsibility), and Flickr account (we took photos along the route, as well).

Our goal was to capture the spirit of the experience for riders and fans alike. Let us know what you think!

Amendment S is the One Thing We Can All Agree On

Amendment S is the One Thing We Can All Agree On

Governor John Hickenlooper and former governor Bill Owens have teamed up to make sure Coloradans vote Yes on Amendment S. Along with billboards, a web site, and social media outreach, the campaign recorded and released a series of radio ads.

Take a listen:

The ads are playing on radio stations all over Colorado. For a look behind the scenes with the talent, check out the outtakes reel:

Ponchos for Perlmutter

Ponchos for Perlmutter

When the going gets tough, the tough get ponchos.

In the 7th Congressional District of Colorado, the going has gotten quite mudslingy, indeed.

Joe Coors, the Republican challenger, originally promised to run a positive campaign, Perlmutter was hopeful he’d actually get to talk about the issues and the policies he’s been fighting for.

But that didn’t last long. The attack ads have been brutal – even labeled “deceitful” by the Denver Post – and while the Perlmutter campaign is fighting back with frequent Fact Checks, they also decided it was time to have a little fun:

Due to the extreme amounts of mudslinging from Joe Coors in the last few weeks, they’ve had to ask all their campaign staff to wear protective ponchos at all times.

While Ed Perlmutter is disappointed his opponent wouldn’t keep his positive pledge, Ed hasn’t lost his focus on job creation, serving our veterans, and making sure our communities’ families are thriving.
